The California Striped Bass Association (CSBA) was founded in 1974 originally with a chapter in Stockton, California. the Stockton Chapter was spearheaded by Mr. Jay Sorensen. The CSBA is a non-profit organization formed to preserve, conserve and enhance striped bass while promoting recreational sport fishing, environmental awareness and good fellowship.
The Isleton-Delta Chapter was originally named the Rio Vista Chapter and was formed in the summer of 1985. In February 2006, our Chapter's name was changed to the Isleton-Delta Chapter.
Over the years, the Isleton-Delta Chapter has been involved in many discussions and negotiations with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) as well as State legislators. Some of these issues include, but were not limited to:
- The Striped Bass Stamp
- Usage of its then collected Striped Bass Stamp Fees
- CSBA made certain that the Striped Bass Stamp Fees were terminated once the DFW stopped supporting the striped bass fishery.
Most recently, CSBA Isleton was also involved with the DFW regarding the Striped Bass Policy as well as the Delta Management Plan. CSBA Isleton is also strongly opposed to the Delta Tunnel Project. We are also a member of the coalation that is petitioning the DFW for a striped bass slot limit.
Each year, our Chapter holds a variety of events and activities that include:
- Barry Canevaro Memorial Striped Bass Derby in April
- a "Free Fishing Camp for Children" partnering with Delta Bay Marina in May, the Saturday. before Mother's Day.
Each year, we hold our Annual Crab Feed, Silent Auction, Raffle and 50/50 drawing. Funds raised at this dinner help support our Chapter's activities as well as our sponsorship of a Delta youth orginazion. Our Chapter's Crab Feed is our largest social event and fundraiser of the year, and is always a sell-out.
Other events and activities include our participation in the Rio Vista Striped Bass Derby & Festival. The Isleton-Delta Chapter not only acts as a consultent to the Rio Vista Chamber of Commerce regarding the fishing derby, but our Chapter's members staff the weigh station and are the official weighmasters for this 73-year-old fishing derby.
Other annual events also include our November thanksgiving dinner and meeting. At that dinner, we hold our Annual Turkey and Ham Raffle. In December, we hold a Holiday Party. That evening, we serve a prime rib dinner with traditional side dishes followed by our Holiday Gift Exchange. These two events are always well attended and a fun time is always had by all.
The Isleton-Delta chapter holds our meetings on the second Wednesday of every month. We meet at the American Legion Veteran's Hall, 615 St. Francis Way, Rio Vista, California. We have a meet and greet beginning at 5:30pm, and we serve an all-you-can-eat buffet dinner ($20.00) starting at 6:00pm, followed by a Chapter meeting at 7:00pm. After the meeting, our chapter hosts a fishing seminar. Monthly speakers consist of local fishing guides, party boat captains and prominent individuals involved in the sport fishing and/or outdoor industry.
Throughout all of these activities and events there is but one truth that links us together; we care for the environment and the future of our fisheries. So, come join us, and become a member of the Isleton-Delta Chapter of the California Striped Bass Association. New members receive a $15.00 chapter hat and two decals, all for the cost of $25.00. Annual membership is $20.00, and a new member pays a one-time $5.00 initiation fee. A monthly Isleton-Delta Chapter newsletter is also emailed to all of our members. Our Isleton newsletter, our Isleton Facebook page, and the CSBA website are full of fishing information. We will give you a warm welcome, and we will definitely have some fun throughout the year.
